Junction 2012 glass installation

Junction 2012 Chapel Ash, Wolverhampton 3rd -5th August is a contemporary arts festival now in its second year, I've been working on a glass piece for the festival inspired by the mix of architectural detail found in the area.

I wanted to capture some of the architectural history of Chapel Ash within my glass work so primary research focused on some of the overlooked craftsmanship & decorative detail found on the high street. Above some decorative Victorian stonework in Meadow Street.

Decorative shop front

I was really interested in creating some glass to fill missing elements & negative spaces within the existing architecture of Chapel Ash.  I decided to create a glass lens to revive the dilapidated timber work of this shop front.

Using a mix of architectural details for inspiration including Victorian gothic revival
I created a clay master for my glass mould.

Plaster mix mould has picked up the clay details, ready to start packing with glass.

Colours & textures are bold to give the piece presence when installed.
