tree dressing with glass

I have just finished working on a great project with a class at Crudgington Primary School, Shropshire, we created Olympic inspired glass bunting, to help celebrate & decorate their local trees.
The class started off with practice pieces for their individual flags, designing in clay.

We chose Olympic values equality, friendship & courage to create 3 banners, everyone designing their own flags & a letter. The children used a mix of found object impressions & freehand mark making to create their work.
Bringing the flags together really shows their creative mix of styles & textures.

These are some of the plaster moulds cast from the clay models, ready to take the glass & then fired in the kiln

lots of experimentation in class created some great textures..........

The sun came out for the tree dressing day at Waters Upton.

I had also run a couple of community workshops for the arts festival & some of the locals brought the mini glass bunting they had made to dress the tree.
